What Works Better – Direct Mail Marketing or In Person Marketing?
Which do you think works better in bringing in new customers to our deli. Sending out direct mailing postcards or going around to businesses in person and giving them a menu and postcard in person. Also, what do you think is the best day to go out marketing that would get the best response for people to try our deli for lunch or catering. Thank you!

You want to get out in the community to let people know that you are in business when it comes to food. Drop menus off at office buildings in your area. Offer free delivery and coupons. On the menus mention that you offer catering too.
People who work in office buildings always want to try new places to eat that can save them time and money.
Make sure that you have an offer unlike your competitors. What is so special about your deli that would draw people?

Direct marketing is better for a eateries as people would see(in person marketing ) as a sales push. But the best way to sell an eatery is word of mouth.

Direct mail. Try to get included in something like a newspaper invoice, etc., where folks pull out the bill and your ad comes with it. Also, put a really good offer on a coupon on the mailer to get the best response. Even if you lose a little money, odds are very good you will get and keep a new customer!

direct mail marketing!!! most consumers really do not want in person marketing. that is why the internet, ebay and catalogue sales are growing in leaps and bounds.

Direct marketing is the best method outside of word of mouth. Mailings are a huge overhead, and are not great indicators of profitability. If anything, they tend to show a great loss at the end of the fiscal year.

Why not try a different strategy? Instead of spending money on direct mail, if you have a lot of offices you’d like to draw customers from, why not offer a prize for the “Most Deserving Employee” of the business. Let other employees in that business or division of the company vote for the most deserving Employee. Give them a meal for 2 or 4 people.
Do that at least once a week targeting a new business, if you run out of businesses you want to target, start over.
You’ll get word of mouth, you’ll get additonal employees that will come with them. You’ll get good will.
Obviously you want to start with the businesses closest to you and work out from their. Customers closer to your Deli will be more repetitive visitors.
Have Fun!
