How come the internet light on my DSL modem keeps blanking off?

My brother and I have two separate computers, and the same DSL modem: Westell. For some strange reason, the internet light on his DSL modem stays on always and my blanks on and off excessively. Does anyone know why this is happening? (The internet light is off even as I am typing this question…) Also, the internet light keeps turning red, too.

blinking? turning red? could be connection issues. if two computers use the dsl line then that could be the problem. he could be getting it full and you get whats left

Are you using same phone line?
Are you using same DSL login and password?

If you answer yes to any questions, USE A ROUTER AND SHARE THE CONNECTION.
If you answer no to the questions, call your phone company to replace your telephone wires.
And if they don’t, switch to cable like I did. Works like charm

When the lights are blinking, it means it’s transfering data (I have a westell). When it turns red it means they’s a connection problem, but red has only shown up when I turn it on, not in the middle of when it’s on.

If red keeps popping up, turn it off and unplug everything for 5 min, then reconnect it and turn it back on. This solved my red lights before.

Call your provider’s tech support. Your line (or your modem) has a problem – his doesn’t.
